Linen Gauze Scarf Thing
Linen Gauze Scarf Thing
These scarves were naturally dyed using the rainwater I collected. The beautiful mauve and pink tones are from fresh green redwood cones I’ve been collecting from my forest. The peachy/pinks are Madrone Bark gathered from my friend’s farm Emandal, in Mendocino County. The grays are from a combination of logwood extract, black walnut husks, and Iron. The linen gauze I use is industry waste from a local luxury bedding company. These scarves are super soft and 100% zero waste.
The Indigo Scarves are dyed with organic Indigo. I let them dance and dry in my favorite tree under the Full Moon. There are subtle variations in the colors. The colors are mottled on Cloud, Madrone Indigo(Madrone Bark over-dyed with Indigo), Dingy Indigo(California Black Walnut over-dyed with Indigo)
New Moon is a combination of three colors. I used an exhausted vat of Fresh Redwood Cones to utilize wastewater, then I added Logwood and finished with an Iron bath.
Scarf Thing is so much more than a scarf. It’s a raw-edged 60” x 60” squarish piece of super soft linen gauze. My favorite is folding in half and creating a triangle that I wrap around my neck, all scrunched up and tied with a knot. It makes a great lightweight blanket, table cloth, skirt, and curtain ( keep out of direct sunlight) and makes a great make-shift bag.
When needed, hand or machine wash gently in cold water. Hang to dry out of direct sunlight. Use a PH-neutral soap.
